Diamond has become a promising material for optoelectronic applications. We show that mask-less etching with gas-mediated electron beam induced etching (EBIE) is capable of achieving high resolution editing of inclined (111) facets in single crystal diamond.
The EBIE is performed on a bulk chemical vapor deposition diamond plate coated with a layer of sputtered Al and chromium to protect the surface from ion implantation and prevent edge rounding and roughening.
